CONMEBOL took an interesting turn with heavyweights achieving victory – Brazil and Argentina both won against Uruguay and Peru respectively.

Brazil had an impressive win against the 10-man Uruguay, and Arthur Melo and Richarlison netted the goals at 34 and 45 minutes. Since it was Arthur’s 21st appearance, he was desperately in need for a goal.

On the other hand, Argentina’s Nicolas Gonzalez and Lautaro Martinez brought triumph with two goals. Lionel Messi made his 142nd appearance for his national team; however, he failed to score.

Of course, his pass to PSG midfielder Paredes was remarkable as the latter assisted Martinez for Argentina’s second goal. He said, “I’m happy for the win, we needed it after the match we had the other day. From the start we were great, we got the goals and we created a lot of scoring chances.

“The second half of the other match was very good and I believe we continued down the same path, even going up a level. I believe this is the path we have to continue on. Little by little, we are becoming strangers as a group.”

Now coming back to Brazil, the team definitely felt the absence of many dynamic players including Neymar. Even though Uruguay put up a good fight, Martin Caceres missed a golden opportunity to hit the net.

Now, the wait for the qualifiers starts as the match again commences in March 2021. Top four teams are going to qualify for Qatar 2022.
