Children may be the reason behind community transmission as per two studies. The Children’s Hospital Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics revealed that the infection among children jumped up furiously from April to September.

Earlier in April, children covered 2.2% of the reported cases in the U.S. However, this month the rate rose sharply to 10%. The study employed data from U.S. public health department sites, and 624,890 cases were reported by September 24.

One of the studies conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that older children are tested more than the younger ones. According to the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, 277,285 school-going children are tested COVID-positive from March 1 to September 19.

The report signaled that the weekly rate for children cases had gone up in mid-July and has steadily peaked throughout the summer. Returning to school might have been one of the crucial reasons.

As per the Pediatrics study, the virus is still rarely found among young children with a death rate of 0.01% among all children. By September 10, children accumulated 1.7% of coronavirus-related hospitalizations.

Underlying conditions are to be blamed for the majority of the cases as the severe cases are detected. Latino and Black children are susceptible to suffer from critical illness.

“It is important for schools and communities,” a researcher from CDC noted, “to monitor multiple indicators of COVID-19 among school-aged children and layer prevention strategies to reduce COVID-19 disease risk for students, teachers, school staff and families.”

The testing facilities solely focused on individuals showing symptoms, children are seen to be most affected by the asymptotic infection.
